Made from cellulose (wood, cotton or hemp rope are all sources of fibrous cellulose), sisal (from agave plant) and recycled PET. Bacteria just love a warm, moist environment so alternate Eco-Sponges, one in use and one in the wash and out on the line where it can soak up anti-bacterial UV rays.
Eco-Sponge is washable up to 60 degrees.
Conventional sponges are derived from petroleum-based plastic, polyurethane foam. Manufacture is not a clean process, plus they end up as unnecessary garbage going into our landfill.
Many conventional sponges today contain triclosan (an anti-bacterial, anti-microbial agent), as do many household and personal care products. Triclosan is the most prevalent contaminant not removed by typical wastewater treatment plants.
Following source: NICNAS, Australia. ’Widespread use of triclosan provides a number of ways for the chemical to enter the environment. In addition, tests showed triclosan to be toxic to aquatic species including algae. The chemical properties of triclosan indicated that it may be bio-accumulative and persistent in the environment.’
Eco-Sponge feels great to use, and it’s got the feel good factor too. If we all do our little bit to support the environment, it’s a lot more cost effective to care now than leave it up to our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to pay for the clean up…
