The Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist – Bedrooms

Wardrobes: Likely to be the biggest job, so it’s first on the list. Working on only one shelf at a time, tidy bedroom closets. Refold items that need it, keep like items together, place items you no longer want or use in a donation bag. Remove anything on the floor of the closet and thoroughly vacuum. Match shoes back into pairs.

Reorganise: Make the most of hanging space. Fold clothes that don’t really need to be on hangers (jeans, sweaters, tee shirts etc.). Wipe shelves with microfibre cloth and Multi Surface and Glass Cleaner.

Organising wardrobe clutter: Place smaller articles, such as scarves, dress jewellery, belts etc on shelves, hangers or in bins to keep them together.

It’s easy enough to hang your clothes up but it’s all the accessories like scarves, dress jewellery and belts that never seem to have a proper home.

Hooks on the inside of cupboard doors provide a home for jewellery, or old door nobs on the wall, and as for all those scarves, how about purchasing a towel rail and attach to the back of your bedroom door for a colourful display and easy access.

Drawers: tidy and reorganise.

Wash Curtains: Hand wash or only use a very gentle delicate wash with Olive Liquid Laundry for Wool & Silk.

Clear clutter on surfaces such as dressing table, chest of drawers, shelves.

Mirror(s): For streak free mirror cleaning use a clean microfibre cloth moistened with warm water and Multi Surface and Glass Cleaner. Then the same technique for windows. Although for large areas of windows we recommend using All-Purpose Cleanser.

Wet Dust: Use a microfibre cloth moistened with warm water and a spray of Multi Surface and Glass Cleaner.

Complete your Bedroom Spring Clean with a vacuum for carpet and for hard flooring a vacuum and a clean with a cotton washable floor cloth with diluted All-Purpose Cleanser or Floor Mopping Fluid.

And the finishing touch, a pretty vase or jug of fresh flowers.

Step by Step – Bathroom Spring Clean

Toilet: Use Toilet Cleaner under the rim and leave. Spray the toilet seat, lid, rim, base and cistern with diluted Orange Power Cleaner in a trigger bottle and wipe with a paper towel.

Shower: Spray a liberal amount of Bathroom Cleaner and leave it for several minutes.

Bath, basin etc: Also spray with Bathroom Cleaner and leave for the time being. Bathroom Cleaner is particularly effective at removing dirt as well as limescale deposits.

Screen Shot 2015-09-16 at 9.34.53 am

Walls: Use diluted All-Purpose Cleanser or diluted Orange Power Cleaner in a trigger bottle, mist and wipe.

Grout: Spray grout with water. Wearing gloves, make a paste using Bleach Complex and Stain Remover and water. Spread along the wet grout. If the grout seems particularly stained, mix the Bleach Complex with lemon juice instead of water. Leave for 30 minutes and remove with a wet microfibre cloth.

Shower Rose: Remove the rose, add approximately 100ml of Decalcifier to 500ml of boiling water from the kettle into a bowl, place the shower rose in the mixture, allowing it to act for 30 minutes. Rinse off thoroughly and return the shower rose.

Alternatively pour 1 cup white vinegar into a plastic bag, fasten around shower head with a rubber band and allow to sit overnight. Remove bag in the morning and rinse shower head.

Shower curtain: Place in the washing machine with a large towel to aid cleaning and Lavender Liquid Laundry. Hang outdoors to dry.

Drawers and cabinets: Remove everything from the drawers, getting rid of outdated and/or empty product containers, re-organise.

Extractor fan: Clean vent fan covers at least once a year. Turn off power at the circuit breaker and remove the cover. Fill a small bucket with warm water and a few squirts of Dishwashing Liquid Lemon or Calendula and let the fan cover soak for 10 minutes. Scrub, rinse and air dry on a paper towel.

Mirrors: Spray and wipe down your mirrors. For no streak mirrors clean with Multi Surface and Glass Cleaner and a clean microfibre cloth.

Back to the Toilet: Scrub with toilet brush.

Back to the Shower and wherever else you have used Bathroom Cleaner. Using a sturdy cloth wipe clean and rinse. Now go over any glass in the shower with Multi Surface and Glass Cleaner for a streak free finish.

Shower, Bath, Basin: If need be use Scouring Fluid or Scouring Powder, powder is the best choice for limescale deposits, in basin/bath.

Floors: Vacuum and then mop floors with diluted All-Purpose Cleanser or Floor Mopping Fluid.

We love Sonett’s range of Liquid Soaps, one for the shower as a body wash and one for the basin. Your choice of Rosemary, Rose, Citrus, Lavender, Neutral or Épure which is a combination of seven herbs for a special aromatic fragrance. Both kids and adults alike love Foam Soap Calendula.

Finish with a pretty vase of fresh flowers, freesias for their fabulous aroma or tulips are another favourite at this time of year.

Clean the blinds: Close the blinds, then, using a warm water moistened microfibre cloth with diluted Orange Power Cleaner or All-Purpose Cleanser, start at the top of the blinds and work down, running your hand along each slat to pick up dust. Next, close the blinds in the opposite direction and repeat.

Clean ceiling fans: Turn fans off and wet dust with diluted Orange Power Cleaner or All-Purpose Cleanser.

Disinfect remote controls: Remove the batteries, then wipe with a microfibre cloth slightly moistened with rubbing alcohol. Use a cotton bud moistened with alcohol to clean in between the buttons. Replace with newly charged batteries.

Clean screens: Use a clean, moist microfibre cloth for streak free TV, tablet and phone screens.

Screen Shot 2015-09-09 at 9.15.33 am

Clean lights: Ensure lights are turned off and the bulb completely cool. Clean the bulb with a microfibre cloth lightly moistened with warm water and Multi-Surface and Glass Cleaner.

Clean the sofa: Vacuum, using upholstery fitting on cushions, in crevices and under the cushions. If throw pillows have removable, washable covers, launder according to manufacturer’s directions first and foremost. If ok to wash use Olive Laundry Liquid for Wool & Silk in a cold or 30 degree delicates wash or hand wash.

TIP: If sofa smells musty, sprinkle with baking soda, which neutralises odours and allow it to sit for 15 minutes or so before vacuuming.

Wash curtains and drapes: Use gentle and effective Olive Liquid Laundry for Wool & Silk to wash curtains in a delicate wash or hand wash. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning drapes.

Clean windowsills and tracks: Spray liberally with Multi-Surface and Glass Cleaner. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to soften and break down grime. Use a screwdriver wrapped with a rag to gently remove the gunk in tracks.

Clean any other furniture: Wet dust because dry dusting just moves it around the room, using a warm water moistened microfibre cloth and Multi-Surface and Glass Cleaner.

Clean doors, knobs and light switch plates: Wipe any and all down, using a warm water moistened microfibre cloth and Multi-Surface and Glass Cleaner.

Clean walls: Wipe down walls with a warm water moistened microfibre cloth and diluted All-Purpose Cleanser or Orange Power Cleaner.

Using eco friendly, skin friendly, synthetic chemical free products in your kitchen is the best choice to ensure your kitchen environment is friendly. No unnecessary synthetic chemical residues is particularly important in food preparation areas.

What to do about limescale deposits?

Decalcifier is to be used wherever heavy limescale deposit is encountered on fittings, cookware, coffee makers, dishwashers etc.

Use undiluted: on fittings where the Decalcifier cannot be heated – allow it to act for a few minutes, depending on the thickness of the limescale, then thoroughly rinse off with clear water.

Use diluted: on cookware and for decalcifying machines – where Decalcifier may be heated and is therefore more effective rapidly.

Kettles: Add approx. 100 ml of Decalcifier to 500ml water, heat up to approx. 60 °C, allow it to act for 20-30 minutes, then rinse off thoroughly.

Coffeemakers: Fill 200ml of Decalcifier and 800ml of water into the water container and descale according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Afterwards run fresh water until the water is clear.

Dishwasher: Add 1 litre of Decalcifier to the main washing cycle of the longest programme (once the pre-washing cycle is finished!) – with or without dishes. Let the programme run until the end.
